Thanks SMH
The more you publicise whats going to be banned on this so called black list - the more people are going to want to check it out and see what all the fuss is about.
No brainer at all.
Earlier today I stumbled across SMH’s article regarding a rape simulator game that originated from Japan. It’s been sitting on the front page for literally the whole day now - obviously due to its high level of interest and the amount of people reading it through out the day.
I have talked about the whole plan on censoring the internet and how they plan on doing it through some previous work I did while working at the Pod last semester. And like most people, Conroy’s plan has to be the most stupid idea around. He has noble ideas behind the plan, but he’s dumb as a brick.
Anyway, back on to the article. Here is what I have a problem with the article:
- First of all, I don’t think this is a justification to censor the whole internet because there are a few people out there playing such a game. Not everyone wants to go play a raping game.
- Censoring the internet won’t do ANYTHING. It’s just as easy to download it from Limewire. Conroy’s GRAND censorship plans cannot restrict P2P downloading at all. And why would there be child porno websites anyway? Its all done through P2P.
- The whole censorship argument is self perpetuating. The more it gets publicised, the more stories like this are going to pop around and our mate Conroy is going to get happy. Had this rape simulator game been around a few years ago available on the net, I doubt it would have caused the same fuss.
So thanks to the media, for increasing the awareness or this to the mainstream public. Before it would have just been a few sicko’s looking out for it, and now its going to be every person who reads this article. Ironically, it is articles that publicise things like this that will ultimately contribute to strangling our freedom of speech.
You might say that me writing this is hypocritical. But the damage is done anyway.
And if the laws for censoring the internet are passed through. Well say hello to shitty internet speeds. Like it wasn’t slow enough anyway.
