Surrogates is Shit.
I think I am pretty much over lame ass movies like “The Day After Tomorrow”, “2012”, “iRobot” and another one to add to my hate list from last night onwards…”Surrogates”.
Yet again another movie talks about how technology means a detachment to the human condition. Oh nooooo humans are becoming robots. We are losing our humanittyyyyy. Technology is going to rule the world…well…Who gives a FUCK.
Sorry for the keen movie goers who get excited by shit like this, this is going to be a bit of a spoiler. So if you want to experience the disappointment for yourself I wouldn’t advise reading from here onwards.
Basically “Surrogate” makes us believe we are at some random point in the future where…WAIT…HOLD ON…WAIT FOR ITTTTT…robots are almost common place in our society. So original. But this time, different to iRobot, everyone in society has a surrogate (which is a robot) because it a way of an escape, and they control these surrogates from the safety of their own homes. These surrogates are meant to pretty much fulfill the users fantasy - they can do WHATEVER they feel like. And to no surprise, each of these surrogate robots are freaking HOT. Save for the fat guy in the movie. But he wasn’t a robot. My bad.
Continuing along, everything in the film is made to look rosy. Yeah society is awesome and crime rates are down to something like 1% and everyone is partying and hooking up every night. Everbody is doing their dream jobs etc etc. UNTIL, there’s a homicide. And all hell breaks lose. Oh nooo I so haven’t seen something like this before??? Relying on too much technology has seen our downfall AGAIN? We don’t know what we have become AGAIN?
After the story is poised at this stage you get the usual good guy trying to solve everything, alotta fighting and yaddi yadaah everything is solved. Robots are gone. Humans have found humanity again. HOORAY.
I think I’m going to spew.
Really, this same freaking story gets recycled every year.
Im sick of Hollywood and the lame Californian concerns of the end of the world and its environment and the perceived threat of technological advancement etc etc being reflected in the array of films the industry keeps on spewing out. Yea you guys need to do a shit load to save your selves, and Silicon Valley is the global technology innovation powerhouse that everyone is trying to emulate.
But it only takes one knob of a director - who thinks he’s mad with his belief that we as a society should stop and reflect and see where we are going with this to prevent some sort of apocalyptical destruction of humanity - to come up with some brick of a script.
Take your shit somewhere else.
I think it’s high time there is a third movie to Jackass or another Family Guy movie or something. See, Bruno was gold because some brains went into that movie. And it makes Yanks look like dumbasses.
And to no surprise, Hollywood had nothing to do with it.
