Oktoberfail
Last night was UNSW’s Oktoberfest party. And it was shit. Why? Well for a couple of reasons.
- The organisers marketed the event like absolute crazy - I reckon in Sydney, the hearing the word Oktoberfest meant straight away UNSW party. So what happens then? Basically a party is held that has absolute no chance of keeping up with the demand that they have generated. People were waiting in the lines for hours and hours - it was absolutely ridiculous. By 7pm the whole place had reached capacity, and were told to piss off. I felt pretty cut considering not only I go to UNSW…but I am also an Arc member. And what a bloody fail that $70 was at the beginning of the semester.
- And this brings me to my second point. Oktoberfest should just be for UNSW people. All you non-UNSW people should go enjoy your own shitty non-event uni parties. I like how Macquarie Uni priced their tickets for Conception Day. If you’re a student here, its free (or maybe $10 buks or something cheap). If you don’t study here, $60. In other words, PISS OFF.
There would have been an epic line up to get in anyway even if it was restricted to UNSW people, because everyone from UNSW was trying to get into the joint as well. - Which brings me on to my third point. You wait in a line for three hours or something gay like that. You pay your $10, $25 or whatever it is and you get in. You want a drink? Go line up in another epic line for 30min or so. Yeaaaaaa sickk party.
AND ALSO here’s a point I forgot to mention. It was absolutely retarded for those people who actually bought their tix after watching themselves grow old, they weren’t allowed back in if they left momentarily. And why would they leave? Possibly to get a breathe of fresh air away from that congested pit. - The bouncers were absolutely SHITHOUSE in managing the crowd. By 6pm, the line to get into the place had turned into a somewhat crowd of people crowding around the entrance. The only entertainment in the night came from watching a couple of people trying to jump the fence and a fair few got away with it.
So yea, Oktoberfest was shit. It was amazing to see the number of people who actually waited for hours to go in and leave the party within an hour due to its amazing shitness.
I’m pretty bitter about it because it was something I had been looking forward to all month, waited in a line for 3hrs then got told to go home.
Put it simply, a night got ruined for hundreds of students quite simply because of shitty fail and organisational abomination. That’s what happens when you let a bunch of retarded Arc “event organisers” run the show. Non-UNSW people should have been charged the price that such an event would have demanded if someone like Fuzzy Entertainment ran the show. But then again, that probably explains the low price - not much was done.
But I had a mad night in the cross anyway. SO i rock.
